Navigating NYC - Goodbye!

Our final day was a bit disjointed as our flight back home was not until 10:30 pm
and we had to check out of the hotel by late morning.

They kindly minded our bags for us while we decided to use the final part of our Gray Line ticket – the ferry trip to Lady Liberty.

We caught the downtown bus, yet again, although given the rain was sticking around, we just sat in the downstairs area and rode it as a normal bus, given we already knew all the facts by now having been on this loop so much!

When we got down to the Pier area we had just missed the ferry. The next one was n half an hour so we went and grabbed a coffee on Wall Street.

The ferry was not very busy and we braved the rain and wind and went on the top floor – open air. I love boats and water and was very happy. It was nice to see Manhattan from the water.

Seeing the Statue of Liberty up close was amazing. She was beautiful, but still not as big as I expected. We didn’t stop to get out at Liberty Island but got an awesome view of her from most
angles!

The boat then headed on to a stop near the West 40’s, giving us an even better view of New Jersey. Hoboken was just to our left!

It was now lunch time so we headed up to 9th avenue and found a little ‘pub’ place called ‘The Jolly Monk’. It was very quiet and the server there, Maggie Weston, was amazing and the best we had experienced in NYC (and other places). She is an actress so watch this space!

The food was reasonably priced and very tasty. I had a beef brisket burger and fries and It was one of my favourite meals I’d had in New York. Also Happy Hour wine. We had a few glasses of red and enjoyed the complimentary WiFi before slowly heading back to our hotel.

Before we knew it we were back at JFK and waiting for the plane to take us back to the UK. A very sad event indeed.

In conclusion, I loved New York City. I am a city person and this is THE city. I cannot wait to come back!
