Getting into Greece – Kefalonia – Day 2 – Lixouri

After a leisurely morning swim (yes it was freezing but I have to swim!) we set off to a part of the Island we were yet to explore – Lixouri. The drive took about an hour and
through a few small villages and around long winding roads.

We got to Lixouri just in time for lunch and, like Argostoli, the square was alive and thriving with activity. We chose a place on the square called V+S Corner and dined on fried calamari and grilled prawns.

After lunch we went for a drive trying to find the village of Havdata where we saw a house for sale online. We
found the village, not the house and ended up at a Monastery overlooking the water.

We made it back to Lixouri in time to take the car ferry back to Argostoli. This was only €4.80 per car and took about 20mins compared to the mega trek that the drive over took.

We decided to take a drive back past our favourite restaurant from the previous year (and the main reason we wanted to go back!) – Koutapas Paradise. We had driven by the day before and were advised it was

closed and would not open until after we had left. But my husband felt inspired and we were shocked and elated to find people inside dining! That was dinner sorted and after a nap and a swim we headed back.

Koutapas Paradise is a family run business opposite Ammes Beach in between the Airport and our hotel. The man who runs it is absolutely lovely and cannot speak a lick of English, which is great. He remembered us from the year before which made
us squeal with delight. The lady who served us (possibly his daughter?) told us what they were making (no menus yet) and we asked if they had any pork chops, something my husband had been talking about for nearly the whole year since our last visit, and she advised us they could cook that for us.

So we settled in to a long evening of wine and food and views over the sea. As we learned from 2015 the
owner of the restaurant asked us (in Greek – my husband speaks it) what he could make for us the next day and remembering how great his Rabbit dish was we asked him if it was possible to have that again and he said he would make it happen.

We were in heaven
